Abstract. Early detection of glaucoma was attempted on 14,611 patients seen in an eye clinic during a one-year period. The series comprised 5,216 males and 9,395 females. Their age ranged from 12 to 68 years, average 26.2 years. Initial screening was made by intraocular pressure, refraction, family history and fundscopic appearance of the disc. These persons then underwent perimetry by a FDT screener(Humphrey). A total of 150 persons(1.1%)were categorized as glaucoma suspect. After detailed examinations,17 out of 14,000 persons(0.12%)under 40 years of age were diagnosed with glaucoma. The group comprised 5males and 12 females. There were 14 cases of normal-tension glaucoma and 3 cases of primary open-angle glaucoma. FDT screener was useful in detecting asymptomatic glaucoma in younger adults.
