Abstract. A 69-year-old female presented with luxation of swollen and cataractous lens in both eyes. The luxated lens in the right eye was removed under general anesthesia. Following vitrectomy,VISCOAT(R),a dispersive viscoelastic material, was injected into the posterior vitreous cavity. This procedure induced floatation of the luxated lens which was then removed through a corneoscleral wound. An intraocular lens was inserted after removal of viscoelastic material from the vitreous cavity. There were no complications during or after surgery. The present method promises to be of value in the surgical treatment of lens luxation.
