A 52-year-old male suffered blunt trauma resulting in damaged left temporal lobe and impaired visual acuity in his left eye. When seen 8months later, his corrected visual acuity was 1.5 right and 0.15 left. His right eye showed upper temporal quadranopia. His left eye showed optic atrophy and constricted visual field. Radiography showed fractured left orbit, injured left temporal lobe, and intact optic canal. Decompression of left optic canal resulted in markedly improved visual field. The visual acuity remained unchanged. This case illustrates that optic canal decompression may be effective for constricted visual field even in the chronic stage.
