  • Look Inside

We reviewed the outcome of surgery for uveitic glaucoma in 30 eyes of 24 patients. The causative lesion comprised Behçet disease 6 eyes, sarcoidosis 4 eyes,Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease 4 eyes, and unclassified 16 eyes. All the eyes received trabeculectomy with adjunct use of mitomycin C. When success was defined as control of intraocular pressure(IOP)below 21mmHg 24months after surgery, the survival rate was 81.6%. It was 34.7%when success was defined as IOP below 15mmHg. The surgical outcome was independent of the type of uveitis, simultaneous cataract surgery or not,nor postoperative use of corticosteroid. The findings show that the effect of trabeculectomy with mitomycin C declines with lapse of time and that it is not very effective in maintaining IOP below 15mmHg.
