  • Look Inside

We reviewed 7 eyes of 7 patients that developed traumatic dehiscence of the corneal wound after previous penetrating keratoplasty. The series comprised 4males and 3 females. Their ages ranged from 23 to 79 years, average 51 years. The original diseases included keratoconus 2 eyes, corneal leucoma 2 eyes, bullous keratopathy 2 eyes, and keratoglobus one eye. The corrected best visual acuity was 0.1 or less in either eye before trauma. The final visual acuity was less than that before wound dehiscence in 4 eyes in spite of treatment. Following background factors were identified for wound dehiscence after penetrating keratoplasty:poor visual acuity in both eyes, being young and active, and keratoglobus with thin cornea.
