A 71-year-old male presented with blurring of vision in both eyes. He had been diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa. His corrected visual acuity was hand motion right and 0.3 left. Electroretinogram was unrecordable. Perimetry showed concentric contraction in both eyes. Cataract was present in both eyes. He underwent phacoemulsification-aspiration with intraocular lens implantation. The visual acuity improved to 0.15 right and 0.7 left. Contraction of anterior capsule developed 2months later. The visual acuity was hand motion right and 0.06 left. YAG laser capsulotomy improved the visual acuity. Fibrous proliferation of posterior capsule occurred 2 years after the initial cataract surgery. A cross-shaped opening was created by YAG laser capsulotomy. The opening started to close again 10months later. Retinitis pigmentosa is known to induce contraction of anterior capsule in pseudophakia. Similar mechanism may be involved in the recurrence of posterior capsular opacity in the present case.
