Purpose:To evaluate long-term changes of corneal endothelial cells after wearing of rigid gas-permeable contact lens following surgery for congenital cataract. Cases:This study involved 25 eyes of 14 cases who received cataract surgery before the age of one year. The series comprised 11 bilateral and 3 unilateral cases. All were wearing rigid gas-permeable contact lens. The age at surgery averaged 4.3±2.3 months. They were wearing contact lens for an average of 13.0±3.1 years. Results:Density of corneal endothelial cells averaged 3,921±45 mm2. Cell area averaged 256±33μm2,with 0.34±0.08 as coefficient of variation. Incidence of hexagonal cells averaged 58.9±9.7%. Conclusion:There were little changes in corneal endothelial cells after wearing of rigid gas-permeable contact lens.
