  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We evaluated the corneal endothelial cells in 74 eyes of 39 longterm contact lens wearers, average 14.6 years. Lesions in the corneal endothelium became initially manifest as increase in the coeffi-cient of variation (CV), followed by increase in mean cell area. The CV value became again smal-ler in more advanced cases after the mean cell size became 400 μm2 or greater. The corneal endothelial lesion thus became manifest, initially, by the appearance of just a few large cells. The latter became more numerous in number to appear in numerous clusters. In the later stage, these large cells accounted for a large proportion of endoth-elial cell population.
