Purpose:To determine the criteria for assessment of congenital deficiency of color vision using JFC lantern test. Cases and Method:A total of 850 persons with congenitally deficient color vision entered the study. The series comprised 98 protanomals,124 protanopes,322 deuteranomals, and 306 deuteranopes. Each person was tested by pseudoisochromatic plates, panel D-15 test, anomaloscope, and JFC lantern test. Result by JFC lantern test was expressed as the number of errors out of 9 pairs of presented test light. Results:Number of errors by JFC lantern test ranged from 4 to 9 in dichromats. Only 4% of them made 4 errors and none made 3 errors or less. It ranged from 0 to 9 in anomalous trichromats. A total of 31% made errors of 3 or less, similar to findings in past reports. Conclusion:We propose errors of 3 or less to be“pass”and 4 or more“fail”by JFC lantern test.
