  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A 29-year-old woman presented with hyperemia and pain in her left eye. She had been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis two years before. It subsided following systemic corticosteroid. Her corrected visual acuity was 1.2 right and light perception left. Her right eye showed normal findings. Her left eye showed ciliary injection, posterior synechia, and massive fibrinous exudation in the anterior chamber. The anterior uveitis rapidly subsided after treatment with topical corticosteroid and mydriatics. The visual acuity improved to 0.3 on day 2 of treatment and to 1.0 one month later. The left fundus was normal when examined by funduscopy and fluorescein angiography. There has been no recurrence for one year until present. This case illustrates that, contrary to the accepted view, uveitis may run a fulminant course when associated with ulcerative colitis.
