  • Look Inside

We reviewed 88 eyes of asymptomatic retinal detachment due to lattice degeneration with atrophic holes. Progression was prevented in 56 out of 57 eyes(98%)by cryocoagulation over the entire area,in 12 out of 13 eyes(92%)by coagulation around the area, and in 9 out of 11 eyes(82%)by cryoapplication to the lattice degeneration. The retina became reattached in all the 5 eyes after surgery. Progression was prevented in 96% of eyes when retinal detachment was anterior to the equator or lay posterior to the ora serrata. Progression was prevented in 85% of eyes when retinal detachment was posterior to the equator or extended to the ora serrata. In 31 eyes with retinal detachment involving more one clock-hour of circumference, progression was prevented in 28 eyes(90%). Above findings may serve as guidelines in the selection of therapeutic approach.
