Purpose:To retrospectively evaluate the incidence and associated features of aftercataract in children. Cases:The study involved 21 eyes of 13 children who received cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation during the foregoing 5 years 9 months. Their ages ranged from 6 months to 15 years at the time of surgery. Cases were followed up for one to 50 months, average 18 months. Results:Except 3 eyes of unilateral cataract, all the eyes obtained postoperative visual acuity of 0.8 or over. No aftercataract developed in 17 eyes that received optic capture and in 2 eyes that received posterior capsulorhexis. The other 2 eyes developed aftercaract. Conclusion:Optic capture appears to be useful in the prevention of aftercataract in children.
