Secondary cataract of tardive onset is defined as a state of opacity of the pupillary area with resultant visual failure in eyes in which previous extracapsular extraction and successful discision of secondary cataract had been performed. Two types are described :
Type I consists of cases in which numerous vacuoles accumulate over the pupillary area which has once become transparent. The condition may resemble the spawns of frog and represent the more usual type observed clinically. Proliferation of epithelial cells ar-ound degenerated fiber of the crystalline lens is the basic pathological process.
