  • Look Inside

AdenocheckTM was developed,in 1997,for the rapid diagnosis of human adenovirus(HAdV)by immunochromatography. It had high specificity and somewhat low sensitivity. A new version, modified AdenocheckTM,was designed to improve this drawback. We compared the current and modified versions regarding the sensitivity. We used 68 samples from patients of viral conjunctivitis that proved positive for HAdV by culture from conjunctival scrapings. Current version of AdenocheckTM showed 33 samples(48.5%)as positive. Modified version showed 50 samples(73.5%)to be positive. The difference was significant(p<0.01). For 33 samples that proved positive by current and modified version, the DNA averaged 3.1×107 copies. For 18 samples that proved positive by modified version only, the DNA averaged 3.4×106 copies. For 17 samples that proved negative by both versions, the DNA averaged 1.7×105 copies. The findings show the modified version to be more sensitive than the current one in the detection of human adnovirus.
