CapiliaTM adeno is a newly developed kit for rapid diagnosis of human adenovirus(HAdV)by immunochromatography. We evaluated its sensitivity and its value as rapid diagnostic tool for HAdV. We used 113 samples that proved positive for HAdV by culture and polymerase chain reaction(PCR). CapiliaTM adeno showed 75 samples(66.4% as positive. There was no difference in the rate of sensitivity for different types of HAdV. The sensitivity decreased after day 5 of acute conjunctivitis. CapiliaTM adeno proved positive when there was 7.0×104 copies or more of viral DNA. The findings show this new kit to be of value in the rapid diagnosis of adenoviral conjunctivitis.
