Purpose:To identify factors involved in the outcome of ocular sarcoidosis. Cases and Method:This study was made on 438 eyes of 219 cases seen by us from 1981 through 2002. Sarcoidosis had been diagnosed histopathologically in all the cases. A total of 131 eyes of 70 cases were followed up for 5 years or longer. Multivariate analysis was made on factors related to final visual acuity, persistence of ocular inflammation, and ocular involvement in severe extraocular inflammation. Results:Ocular sarcoidosis was present in 266 out of 438 eyes(60.7%)Visual acuity during the initial visit was the most significantly related to final visual outcome. Ocular inflammation ran a protracted course in 43.6% of eyes. It was positively related with advanced age, presence of extraocular lesions, and systemic corticosteroid. Ocular inflammation subsided within 3 years in 89% of cases. Conclusion:Present findings are useful in the clarification prognostic factors of ocular sarcoidosis.
