Purpose:To report the outcome of vitreous surgery for uveitis secondary to sarcoidosis. Cases and Method:This study involved 26 eyes of 20 operated cases during 10 years 3months. The series comprised 1 eye of a male and 25 eyes of 19 females. The ages ranged from 21 to 74 years, average 58 years. Pars plana vitreous surgery was performed for cystoid macular edema(CME)14 eyes, epiretinal membrane 5 eyes, vitreous opacity 4 eyes, and vitreous hemorrhage 3 eyes. Results:After surgery,Visual acuity improved by 2 lines or more in 18 eyes(69%),remained unchanged in 7(27%),and deteriorated in 1(4%). Final visual acuity of 0.1 or over was attained in 23 eyes(89%)and that of 0.5 or over in 13 eyes(50%). CME persisted or recurred in 12 out of 14 eyes. Use of triamcinolone did not affect the recurrence or persistence of CME,although CME disappeared temporarily in all the eyes after its use. Conclusion:Vitreous surgery was generally effective for uveitis secondary to sarcoidosis. High rate of recurrence of CME would merit further studies.
