Background & Objective:Pain control after spinal surgery greatly affects patients' quality of life (QOL). This study aimed to evaluate the improvement of pain control with loxoprofen, a conventional NSAIDs combined with pregabalin.

Method:Thirty-four patients who had undergone surgery for a spinal disease were assigned to 2 groups, a loxoprofen monotherapy group (monotherapy group) and a loxoprofen plus pregabalin combination therapy group (combination therapy group), and changes in their VAS scores and patient impressions were evaluated.

Outcome:The results showed higher therapeutic efficacy based on the VAS scores and patients' impressions in the combination therapy group. Although adverse drug reactions in the form of dizziness, somnolence, lightheadedness, and edema were noted in the combination therapy group, none led to withdrawal of pregabalin.

Conclusions:Early administration of pregabalin is a useful treatment for postoperative pain after spinal surgery.
