  • Look Inside

It has been reported that Cinepazide is effective for both cerebral and peripheral vasodilatation and for increasing blood flow. The basic studies on its pharmacology, metabolism, and toxicity as well as experimental studies on its effects upon experi-mental cerebral circulation and metabolism have been already reported.

In the present report, the effects of Cinepazide upon cerebral circulation and consciousness levels have been evaluated in 12 cases with cerebrovas-cular diseases and 2 cases with head injury by measurement of rCBF using 133Xe clearance method.

Firstly, the patients were divided into three groups according to the injected dosage of 80mg, 160 mg, and 240 mg of Cinepazide.

The results were as follows ;

The results revealed that its promotive effect on rCBF was outstanding in the perifocal and focal regions following intravenous injection of 80mg and 160 mg of Cinepazide.

In the second step, the patients were divided into three groups according to the severity of their clinical Symptoms (Grade I, II, and III). The results revealed that the increase in blood flow was most remarkable in the most serious group following its intravenous injection.

The finding in common in these studies was that the incerase in cerebral blood flow was noted since around 20 minutes after intravenous injection of Cinepazide.

No significant change was noted following its intravenous injection in the blood pressure, pulse rate, or pH of the blood of these patients.

As a conclusion, it was noted that intravenous injection of 80-160 mg of Cinepazide could increase the cerebral blood flow of the serious patients with cerebrovascular disease whose cerebral blood flow showed low value before its injection. Especially to be noted was that the increase thus caused in the cerebral blood flow was prominent in the perifocal and focal regions.

It was also found out that it can be expected to improve the consciousness levels of patients through prolonged therapy with its continuous administra-tion.
