  • Look Inside

A total of 22 patients who were suffering from disturbance of consciousness, more severe than a half-comatose state, caused by cerebral contusion, intracranial hematoma, cerebral tumor, cerebral aneurysm etc, who were in the critical phase with low possibility of improvement of conciousness, were treated with Ensign as follows :

Ensign was infused directly into the artery via carotid puncture using a daily dose of 500 mgs.

The infusion was carried out 10-16 times during one course of treatment, administering Ensign to the carotid arteries alternatively. Two courses of treatment were performed depending upon the symptoms allowing an interval of a few days between treatments.

An overall evaluation was made of the clinical effectiveness of the medication, in relation to the findings of X-ray examination and electroence-phalogram as well as the observation of disturbance of consciousness and psychotic symptoms.

The results show that the drug was significantly effective (【+++】) in 5 cases, effective (【++】) in 5 cases, slightly effective (+) in 6 cases and ineffective (-) in 6 cases of the 22 cases, thus the effective rate was 16/22=73%, and the effective rate of both (【++】) and( 【+++】) was 10/22=45% which is con-sidered to be an extremely good result taking into account the severity of the cases.

No side-effects were observed.

Above therapeutic method showed excellent results in the disturbance of consciousness and im-provement of EEG, and seems to be the method that can be used for very severe cases with very low possibility of recovery. At the same time, indications for this method could well be further expanded in include less severe cases also. The method can be performed rather easily and no side-effects were observed, which certainly support our point.
