  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

1) Lipid and fatty acid compositions of three different brain tumor tissues (Glioblastoma, Menin-gioma and Metastatic Carcinoma.) were analyzed and compared with these of normal white andgray matter.

2) In lipid compositions of brain tumor tissues, the percentage of ethanolamine phospholipid and cerebroside were lower than these from normal brain. Cholesterol ester, which almost is not in-cluded in normal brain, was contained in brain tumor tissues.

3) Total phospholipid P and cholesterol, in quan-titative lipid fractions from brain tumor tissues, were lesser than these of normal brain.

4) The percentage of C18 and C18: 1, in fatty acid compositions of each lipid fractions from brain tumor tissues, were higher than these of normal brain, and C18: 2, which almost is not included in normal brain, was contained in brain tumor tissues.

5) In quantitative fatty acid compositions, fatty acid contents of brain tumor tissues were lesser than normal brain, and C18: 2 was contained in brain tumor tissues.

6) It is worthy of notice that odd number fatty acids were recognized in both brain tumor- and normal brain tissues.

7) In fatty acids and lipids compositions, various type of brain tumors were generally simulative, but were different from normal brain qualitatively and quantitatively. Therefore, we found that the metabolism of lipids and fatty acids show difference between brain tumor and normal brain.
