  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The authors studied about the metabolism of CDP-Choline in brain tissue in vitro and in vivo using FP-CDP-Choline by radioautography.

CDP-Choline in medium was taken up into cultured nerve cells.

CDP-Choline was incorporated into nucleus within 2 hours but succeedingly spread to cytoplasm and nerve processes.

The uptake of CDP-Choline into the cells was en-hanced by simultaneous administration of ATP.

The same experiment was carried out on glia cells and ependymal cells, but they did not incorporate CDP-Choline so much as nerve cells did even if ATP was administrated.

The authors administrated I-P-CDP-Choline in-traperitoneously to the rat which had been induced cold injury with aceton-dry ice over the scalp, and confirmed that grains of H3)-CDP-Choline was noticed mainly in white matter especially in the location of the injuries. The incorporation was also enhanced by administration of ATP. We may be able to advise that in clinical cases it is more prefarable to apply CDP-Choline with ATP.

And these facts lead us following hypothesis, namely lipid metabolism of cerebral white matter is enhanced in cases of head injuries and followingly CDP-Choline, which is supposed to he required to lipid metabolism, is much taken up into them. It may be utilized to protect further injuries or damages of myelin struc-ture.
