  • Look Inside

1) General review of the development and present status of clinical measurement of cerebral hemo-dynamics with radioisotopes is presented by classi-fying upon the permeability of the tracer to the blood brain barrier.

2) Our new techniques are introduced with some clinical cases. Namely, analysis of the first circulation curve, measurement of brain blood pool volume, mean transit time, cerebral blod flow, a comparison of cerebral blood flow rate in each hemispheres and clinical application of cerebral pletysmograph.

3) The head detection systm, the method of administration and the kind of isotope, possibility of measuring the regional flow changes in brain and significance of brain mean transit time are discussed.

4) These clinical mesurement of cerebral circu-lation with radioisotope seems a useful part of the clinical armamentarium in the overall clinical work up. It is simple, safe, repeatable, painless, quick, inexpensive and reasonably accurate.

5) The only hazard associated with this technique is the minimal radiation absorbed by the patient.
