  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Among hypothalamically-induced walk or run responses in cats, the response which could be a motivation of the switch-off behavior (paddle-pushing test, Nakao, 1958) with short and constant latency was regarded as flight-fear response.

The flight-fear response was obtained by stimula-tion of the b-sympathetic zone except the ventro-medial nucleus and lateral mamillary nucleus, com-prising the anterior hypothalamic nucleus, anterior hypothalamic area, area of the tuber cinereum, dorsal hypothalamic area and posterior hypothalamic area. The low threshold points were concentrated in the anterior hypothalamic nucleus and the posterior hypothalamic area above the mamillary body (solid circle in Fig. 2).

It was emphasized that learning experiments are indispensable to investigation of emotional behavior of the animal and the discrepancy between the pre-sent result and the results reported by others, con-cerning flight response, was discussed.
