  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The authors studied the effect of a new vitamin B12 derivate (hydroxocobalamin) on 34 neuropsychiatric patients inciuding the cerebrovascular diseases, neuritis, autonomic diseases, poisoners and spinomuscular diseases. In all cases, hydroxocobalamin 1000γ was administrated subcutaneously in addition to other drugs (thiamine, ATP, cortisone) which has been continu-ously given.

Remarkable effects were observed particularly on autonomic syndrom (headache, Sleeplessness, nausea, vertigo, constipation and growing cool) in early stage (3~7 days after beginning treatments) and also observed to disappear or dicrease the neuralgia on all neuriti (polyneuritis, sciatiCca, trigeminus neuralgia). Among 7 cases with cerebrovascular diseases, 5 cases were improved psychoneurological symptoms (amnesia, anxiety, sensory and motor lower disturbances). The symptoms and acute barbiturate and CO poison-ing were dicrease after the treatments running on 2~4 months. No remarkable side reactions were observed.

The authors accordingly feel that hydroxocobalamin is useful enough in neuropsychiatric diseases.
