The results of some laboratory and clinical experiments for ophthalmic use of Propionyl Erythromycin Lauryl Sulfate (PELS, trade name Ilosne Lauryl Sulfate) were summarized as follows.

1) The serum level by oral administration of 300mg PELS in a single dose was twice as high as that of Erythromycin propionate.

2) The finding of the aqueous level was verified in one case by oral administration of 400mg in a single dose, while there was no finding in a case of 200mg and 2 cases of 300 mg.

3) The oral administration of PELS revealed excellent effects in 9 cases of hordeolum.
