  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

1) 27 aged man: the operated case with hen's egg's large epidermoid tumor at the pontine angle was reported.

2)40 reports in Japan, including our case, were reviewed and compared with reports of other count-ries. The results were as follows;

i) There is no difference in sex incidence (M:F= 21:19). There is no tendency of male dominancy as had been reported.

ii) There is a high incidence in younger population (20-30, 10-20) as compared with the foreign cases.

iii) There is a predilection of the tumor as recog-nized (on the median line from the medulla oblongatato the chiasma, paramedian area, then the adjacent region of the midbrain). There is no case report, however, of the epidural or extradural epidermoid tumor in Japan.

iv) The malignant change of the tumor has been reported, 6 in foreign countries and one in Japan (from Hinohara and Nakayama).

3) The pathogenesis of the epidermoid was discuss-ed from the point of view of our 4 experimental brain carcinoma, and if the pial tissue had the origin in ectodermal layer, the experimental tumors and intracranial epidertnoid tumors in any place would be explained well without any exceptions.
