  • Look Inside

Data are presented illustrating the effects of monoamine oxydase inhibitor (trade na-me: Catron) to 23 depressive patients, of whom 15 were of depression, 3 in the depres-sive state of manic-depressive psychosis, 3 of presenile depression, I arteriosclerotic de, pressive psychosis, and I depressive neuro-sis.

The prescription dosage varied from 6 to 12 mg per day, with exception of 2 cases to which the dosage of 24 mg were administe-red 2 times per day.

The results are shown as follows: (a) that proved to be remarkably effective in 6 cases, which were composed of 4 depressive patien-ts, 4 depressive state of manic-depressive psycosis, and 1 depressive neurosis. Of 5 depressive psychosis, 3 were improved and 2 slightly improved; 9 cases showed no effec-ts, of which 2 were of presenile depression and others were in the state of manic-dep-ressive psychosis; to 2 cases of presenile and cyclothymic depression, Catron would give rather bad effects; one patient failed to continue the treatment because of side-effects, (b) that, from the above stated, it can be said that Catron would be effective in the treatment of certain depressive patients.
