Effect of various drugs on the propriocep-tively induced reflex discharges of the rabbit's hind limb were studied electromyog-raphically.

In the spinal rabbit, proprioceptively indu-ced reflex discharges were composed of two units, i. e., one is the larger discharge consider-ed to be caused by GIb excitation, the other is the smaller discharge by GIa excitation. When procaine (2% in Locke's solution, 2cc) was injected around the tendon of tibialis anterior muscle, the larger potentials of its muscle were eliminated, but the smaller poten-tial remained unaffected. After the application of procaine (2% in Locke's solution) to the fibural nerve, these potentials disappeared totally.

In the intact rabbit, the proprioceptive action potentials cosisted of two groups with differ-ent latency. The grouping voltages with short and longer latency were designated E-and D-discharge respectively. After the in-jection of procaine (2% in Locke's solution, 2 cc) around the tendon of tibialis anterior muscle, these potential groups increased. On the other hand, after the administration of procaine (2~5% in Locke's solution) to the fibural nerve these action potentials not dis-appeared.
