  • Look Inside

The tractus centrogriseo-nigralis was stu-died in seven kinds of monkeys and Pan satyrus upon serial sections stained by Pal-carmin method.

This group of fibres can be found compa-ratively well in these animals for the fine myelination and the deeper staining by carmin, Ventrally it enters dorsolateral parts of the substantia nigra at its caudal end in Papio hamadryas and Pan satyrus. In Macaca fus-cata, Macaca nemestrina, Hyrobates lar and Cercopithecus aethiops, however, it is traced to the medial side of Sano's Dl at the level of the caudal end of the magno-cellular red nucleus. Dorsally it passes through the medial lemniscus and then courses dorsomedially in the formatio reticularis between the decussa-ting brachium conjunctivum and the lemnis-cus lateralis.

It is uncertain whether the bundle in ques-tion enters the stratum griseum centrale, as Tsuru (1937) ascertained this relation in the brain stem of the mole. In Macaca fuscata, Papio hamadyas, Hyrobates lar and Pan sa-tyrus this bundle can not be traced upto the central grey substance, but it turns downwa-rds to disappear in the compacted cellgroups of the formatio reticularis at the level of the trochlear nucleus.
