In the present study, an attempt has been made to elucidate mechanisms underlying the autonomic blocking action of Chlorpromazine.

Its depressant action on the galvanic skin response (GSR) of cats was studied in com-parison with those of C6 and TEAB.

58 cats were used. The GSR of a hind paw was elicited by the stimulation of premotor area, hypothalamus, ventral root of spinal cord (L2) or lumbar symdathetic ganglion (L7) and was recorded by the potential me-thod.

1) Chlorpromazine administered intravenous-ly in doses of 1-5mg/kg abolished the GSR elicited by the stimulation of premotor area or hypothalamus, but had little or no effect on the GSR to the stimulation of ventral root or sympathetic ganglion even in a dose of 30 mg/kg.

2) The intravenous injection of C6 in doses of 0.3-1.0 mg/kg blocked the conduction th-rough sympathetic ganglion, but had little or no effect on the GSR to ganglionic stimulation even in a dose of 15 mg/kg.

3) A dose of TEAB 10 mg/kg injected intra-venously also blocked the ganglionic transmiss-ion even in a does of 100 mg/kg.
