We compared ELBW and VLBW infants with NBW infants regarding the characteristics of ASD by using M-CHAT. The rate of positive children in LBW group was 32.3% and 2.5 times higher than NBW group, which was 12.9%. Additionally, the 50% of LBW-children with medical risk, namely ventricular Enlargement, IVH or PV, were positive. In terms of item-comparison analysis, we found the significant difference for each passage rate between LBW and NBW in “7. Declarative Pointing”, “9. Brings object to show”, “17. Gaze-following”, and “21. Understanding”. These items show behaviors of social communication such as joint attention, related to later interpersonal and language skills. Therefore, the necessity of follow-up for infants concerning social development was discussed.
