We evaluated the usefulness of a digital imaging system in radiography using monochromatic synchrotron radiation for visualizing small vessels. Digital subtraction method was applied to digital radio graphic movies (1,024×1.024 pixels/frame, 30 frame/ sec) of various organs by using workstations (WS). Digital images obtained from the WS could be transfer-red to personal computers (PC) through computer net-works without loosing spatial resolution (30-40μm). It was shown on the PC that small vessels of ileal arteries (vasa recta and their submucosal communications) with diameters of≧50μm reduces their diameters at a constant rate (10-40%) with branching and small intra-mural vessels of heart with a diameter of about 100μm change their diameters during a cardiac cycle in anesth-etized dogs. The present system may be useful for an advanced use of high-definition image diagnosis.
