  • Look Inside

The aim of this study was to compare new stand-ard indocyanine green dye (DG-A) with old one (DG-B) for the measurement of cardiac output by the dye dilution method. DG-A has lower content of NaI than DG-B, so that light absorption will be more increased for DG-A than DG-B and cardiac output must be underestimated when DG-A is used in place of DG-B. The study was performed in 86 cases included various cardiac diseases and volun-teers at 4 separate hospitals in Japan. Cardiac outputs by using DG-A and DG-B very closely correlated with each other (r=0.932, y=1.0695x+0.3566, p<0.001 ). The ratio of DG-A cardiac output to DG-B cardiac output was 1.158±0.116, indicating a quite agreement with the value of 1.166±0.022 which was the ratio of the absorption coefficient of two dye solutions. Thus, it is concluded that a pro-posed correction coefficient of 1.16 which was pub-lished previously will be suitable for the dye dilu-tion method when new dye is applied.
