　心筋の刺激閾値は，一時的あるいは永久的ペーシングを行なう際，重要な問題である。心筋の刺激閾値を表現するパラメーターとして，閾値電流や閾値電圧が使用されているが，心臓生理学上，刺激閾値は刺激するパルス幅と関連して考えられるべきである。

　植込み型ペースメーカーの電池の寿命を延ばすためには，刺激電流のパルス幅を狭くすることも考えられている。心臓手術後あるいは急性心筋硬塞患者に対する一時的ペーシング刺激パルス幅は，現在2.0msecが用いられており，これの妥当性についての臨床的検討はほとんどなされていない。

In fifteen patients following cardiac surgery, stimulation thresholds were measured on the first postoperative day. Strength-Duration curves and threshold energy curves were depicted. From those data, following results were obtained.

① Rheobase was 1.3±0.5 mA, 0.8±0.3 V. ② Chronaxy was 0.15±0.04 msec., which was much lower than other reports. ③ Rheobase was reached by 0.5~2.0 msec. in the strength-duration curve. ④ The cases with high rheobases showed lower chronaxies.
