  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We have studied our experienced cases to see if it is possible to make endoscopic diagnosis of Crohn's disease in the colon. It goes without saying that in its differentiation from inflammatory diseases clinical symptoms and courses are important and their studies alone would often suffice for accurate diagnosis, but here we have studied endoscopic or macroscopic findings alone.

The following three points are most helpful in the diagnosis of Crohn's disease.

 ⅰ) segmental lesion

 ⅱ) discrete and longitudinal ulcer

 ⅲ) cobblestone picture

All the above three items are important in the distinction from ulcerative colitis and ⅱ) and ⅲ) are essential in the differentiation from tuberculosis of the small intestine. Crohn's disease thus presents endoscopically fairly characteristic pictures.
