 CT colonography is gaining acceptance as a method to screen the colon and rectum for polyps and masses, but sensitivity remains variable. Stand-alone CAD(computer-aided detection)demonstrates excellent performance for polyp detection in a large screening population, with high sensitivity and an acceptable number of false-positive results. In addition, CAD has been proposed as a way to help readers-particularly novice readers-achieve a high sensitivity without unduly reducing specificity or adversely affecting reading time. Detection rates are comparable to human readers at a relatively low false-positive rate, making CAD a useful tool in clinical practice.
