Capsule endoscopy (CE) was approved for clinical use in Europe and the United States in 2001. It allows noninvasive visualization of the entire small bowel, therefore it is the optimum procedure for screening purposes. The most frequent indication for CE is to diagnose patients with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding. It is also useful for patients with Crohn's disease, intestinal lesions caused by NSAIDs and hereditary polyposis syndrome.

However, as it is difficult for CE to confirm the diagnosis by itself, it is necessary to accumulate knowledge of CE findings, so as to make correct judgments about them.
