A 68-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of melena and anemia. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy revealed no abnormal findings, so capsule endoscopy was performed. A submucosal tumor with a small ulcer was detected in the upper jejunum. Double-balloon endoscopy was performed to enable histological diagnosis. Immunostaining of the biopsy specimen proved to be KIT positive and the submucosal tumor was preoperatively diagnosed as GIST. Partial jejunectomy was carried out. Histological examination of the resected tumor revealed malignant GIST, but no metastasis was found. Since the operation, the patient has been doing well.
