がんの早期発見や治療成績の向上により，がん患者の生存期間は長期化し，転移性骨腫瘍（以下，骨転移）を抱えつつ長期生存する患者が増加している。骨転移は，痛みや運動機能の制限による日常生活動作（activities of daily living：ADL）の低下を招き，患者とその家族の生命の質（quality of life：QOL）を著しく損ねるため，その早期診断と早期からの適切な対応は非常に重要である。骨転移患者への対応には，原発腫瘍の治療医，整形外科医，放射線科医，リハビリテーション医，歯科医，緩和ケア医と，それぞれの部門に関連する看護師，薬剤師，理学療法士，作業療法士，放射線技師などのメディカル・スタッフ，臨床心理士，メディカル・ソーシャルワーカーなどが必要に応じて患者・家族と密接に関わり，全体として連携のとれた集学的治療とチーム医療が不可欠である^1）2）。

Multidisciplinary team approach is one of the vital factors in high quality comprehensive management of cancer patients with bone metastases. Palliative care（PC）specialists participate in metastatic bone cancer conference in Shizuoka Cancer Center. A PC specialist should contribute to the conference not only as a symptom manager but also as a total care planner for the patients and their families and even for the team. PC specialists should have complete knowledge of mechanism of pain in bone metastasis and provide the best treatment including pharmacological and non-pharmacological modalities. Furthermore, PC specialists can coordinate each team member, medical staff, and patients and their families.
