放射線治療は，その方針によって，根治照射（術後照射も含む）と非根治照射（緩和照射，準根治照射も含む）に大別される。昨今の放射線治療技術の進歩，いわゆる高精度放射線治療は治療成績の向上に寄与しているが，主に根治照射に注力されている。一方，緩和照射は全体の4割近くを占めているが，主に予後の短い患者を対象に症状緩和を目的として行われ，高精度放射線治療の恩恵を受けているとはいいがたい。

Recent advances in radiotherapy techniques, so-called high precision radiotherapy, have contributed to the improvement of treatment outcomes in radical radiation therapy. The indications for high-precision radiotherapy is expanding, and the experience in radical treatment will be applied to non-radical treatment. Nowadays, oligometastasis is a hot topic. Palliative irradiation accounts for nearly 40％ of the total treatment of oligometastasis. In this short review, we discuss the possibilities of high precision radiotherapy on non-radical treatment.
