One concludes from nursing literature and discussions with nurses in different parts of the world that development and implementation of nursing diagnosis is a world-wide movement. It has effected tertiary care nursing in New York, education and practice in Europe, public health nursing in African villages, and hospital and elder-care in Tokyo. This movement has produced important changes in nursing practice. Nurses see the need for language that will describe their diagnostic judgments and the actions they take to help patients reach desired outcomes. In many countries recognition that nurses make clinical judgments provides an additional sign of professional identity. Discussion will focus on international, regional, and country-wide activities. This discussion will be organized into four aspects of the diagnosis movement. Information Dissemination and Networking, Translation, Cultural Adaptation, Implementation, and lastly, Research and Development.
