The North American Nursing Diagnosis Association, Diagnostic Review Committee has developed a process for peer review of new diagnoses and the revision of diagnoses already classified in the taxonomy. Description of the purpose and processes of this Committee will clarify how a diagnosis proceeds from submission to listing in the NANDA Diagnostic Taxonomy. The process of diagnosis review will be related to concept development and the derivation of diagnostic categories from concepts. The importance of developing clear, precise, and culturally-relevant diagnostic categories for nurses to use in clinical reasoning will be emphasized.
