　小児鼠径ヘルニア手術時に，腹腔鏡にて対側のpatent processus vaginalis（PPV）の有無について検索し，PPV陽性の場合には腹腔鏡下にてこれを閉鎖した．連続して行われた110例の片側鼠径ヘルニアのうち，21例（19％）がPPV陽性であった．両側鼠径ヘルニア，臍ヘルニアを含めた58例に腹腔鏡（補助）下にPPV閉鎖がなされた．腹腔鏡下のPPV閉鎖法は，クリップ，エンドスティッチ^®そしてneedleの使用へと変遷し，現在はneedleによるdirect suturingを標準術式としている（19例）．術中の合併症はみられず，術後再発はクリッピング法の1例にみられたのみであった．

In 110 children with clinical unilateral inguinal hernias, the contralateral processus vaginalis was examined laparoscopically at the time of elective inguinal herniorrhaphy. In case of positive finding of patent processus vaginalis (PPV) , laparoscopic repair of PPV was performed. Twenty-one patients (19%) were diagnosed as positive PPV. There were no complications related to laparoscopy. Thus, laparoscopic evaluation for the contralateral patent processus vaginalis is a simple, safe and accurate procedure.
