　A second investigation by Grad (1963) dealt with a healer's influence on the growth of barley seeds. Twentyfour peat pots, each containing 20 barley seeds, were randomly assigned to two groups of equal size. The experimental group of seeds was watered initially with a 1% saline solution from an open beaker held for 15 minutes by the healer with his hand extended over the beaker.
