I．緒言

　聴神経腫瘍の初期のものが，「神経性難聴」あるいは「高血圧による耳鳴」などと診断され見逃されることが少なくなく，脳幹や小脳症状が出現して初めて本腫瘍であることが確認される場合が稀ではないことが指摘されている^1）。

　我々も，8年間にわたり，「耳鳴症」，「耳管狭窄症」として加療してきた症例が，結果的には聴神経腫瘍であったという大いに反省すべき経験をした。そこで，本腫瘍の早期診断を行う上での一資料ともなれば幸いと考え，経時的に行ったその症例の聴力検査成績の推移を中心に供覧し，我々の反省としたい。

　A 47-year-old male patient with neurilemma of the right acoustic nerve was complaining of bilateral tinnitus without hearing loss. Before the final diagnosis was established, puretone audiometries were repeated once a year during 8 years. The hearing impairment in the right side became obvious 5 years after the first examination and then it progressed slowly. And eight years later, the tumor, 1.5cm in diameter, was removed neurosurgically without damage to the surroundings.
