　I．はじめに

　乳幼児の急性化膿性中耳炎は，われわれ耳鼻咽喉科医が扱う小児疾患のなかでもかなりの部分を占める疾患であるが，その中で，なかなか治り難い症例や，反復して罹患する症例にもしばしば遭遇し，治療にあたつて困難を覚えることが少なくない。

　著者の勤務する病院では，本疾患を日常多く診療する機会に恵まれており，今回，昭和51年，52年の2年間に当科を訪ずれた急性化膿性中耳炎1701例について集計を行ない，それを基礎としてとくに乳幼児の難治性あるいは反復性中耳炎について考察を加えて以下に述べてゆく。

　Acute otitis media is a disease which chiefly affects infants especially small infants. This disease often requires longer duration of treatment or more frequently recurrs in the infants under 3 years of age than the older ones. The number of this disease increased in winter, and these cases require longer duration of treatment than in other seasons.

　I consider that intractable and recurrent cases were not caused by not only one factor but many. Main therapies for this disease consisted of systemic chemotherapy and paracenthesis.
