緒言
近年慢性中耳炎の治療として，伝音系の修復並びに病巣の排除を企図した鼓室成形術が盛んに行われ，種々の術式が考案されているが，なお完成されたものとはいい難く，幾多の研究改善されるべき問題を残している。
ここに問題となるのは，病巣の正確な観察と判定である。病的肉芽の中にある耳小骨或いは一部病変をもつ耳小骨を，伝音機能修復のために残す場合，1）良く連鎖の機能を果す事ができるか否か，2）炎症消退の立場から，将来病変の再燃或いは再発の原因となるような事が無いであろうか否か等を考慮しなければならない。
Gross and microscopic examinations were made on the ear ossicles removed by tym-panoplasty (Wullstein type Ⅲ and Ⅳ).
Changes in bony structure with granulations and dehiscence in the head of the malleus and the body of incus were seen when severe inflammatory conditions occurred upper part of the tympanic cavity and when similar conditions occurred in the lower part such changes were seen on the handle of the mal-leus and the long crus of incus.
There was no marked microscopic change worthy of mentioning excepting for a general inflammatory ones; in one case however, there was a bony atrophy.
