　側頭蜂窠の発達は，個人によつて種々樣々である事は幾多の人々に依り云われ，我々も日常経験するところであう。此の側頭蜂窠の発達の良否は，中耳炎の経過，予後と深い関係があると云われているが，蜂窠発達の個人的差異が何によつて生ずるかに就いては多数の学者により種々説明が加えられている。現在迄の所此等の説は，遺傳，体質に重きをおくもの，潜在性中耳炎を主因とするものに大別出来る。

　潜在性中耳炎が，蜂窠の発達の良否を左右すると云うWittmaackの説こ対しては，多くの学者の反対がある。

TSUCHIDA and associates attempted to investigate, by means roentgenographic studie-s, the possibility of a relation which might be present between the marrows of typical bones in other parts of the body and the air cells of the temporal bone. For this purpose the skull, a rib, a thoracic vertebra, and, a humerus were selected from each of the 21 cadavers under examination. They have derived at following conclusion:

A definite relationship appeared to be emb-odied between the degree of development of the temporal bone air cells and that of the me-dullary cvities of other bones. But, there see-med to be no relationship in existence between the state of development of air cells and the degree with which the medullary cavities mig-ht be developed.
