ペニシリン療法による症状の隱蔽ないし外観的治癒に注意せよ

　優秀なズルフォンアミド剤やペニシリンが登場してから我が科領域の治療方面にも幾多の変革をもたらした．例えば扁桃腺周囲炎で膿を証明すれば即刻切開排膿，ルードウィッヒ氏アンギーナなれば早期に廣範な解剖的切開を要した数年前に較べると，現在の治療方針は可なり大幅に改訂されつゝある．事実急性化膿性疾患では手術をしないで済む場合が目立つて多くなつた．問題を耳に限定すると，急性中耳炎で乳樣蜂巣削開術を必要とする症例が明かに減少して來た．寔に結構なことである．然しその反面，これらの藥物療法を施すことによつて臨床症状が，從來吾々の経驗していたものとは異なつて來た．いわゞ症状の隠蔽又は変貌が観られる樣になつたことはお互が最近経驗しつゝあるところである．私共はズ剤やぺ剤療法を施したにも拘らず遂に手術を余儀なくされた急性乳樣突起炎に於て，蜂巣内は瘢痕性肉芽で充満し，その中に点々として小膿瘍形成を観たり，鼓室やアチックの病変は軽度であるが深部蜂巣に行くほど肉芽増殖や骨破壞の著るしい例など，化学療法（廣義）によつて臨床症状と手術所見とが甚だしく喰い違つておることを経驗し，深き注意を拂つておる．茲に最近半ケ年の間に遭遇した数例に就て述べ，化学療法実施上の反省資料とし度いと思う．

In order to avoid catastrophes from masked effects, they seem to stress the need of thorough X-ray examinations and careful watch over the progress of the ear disease, once when it is established, until at such time as when a complete cure is pronounced on it by final X-ray examination.
